Off Topic, Wonderment

The cat here is very similar to how humans understand the universe. Totally unsure of what he is seeing and yet willing to explore. Not aware that he can not understand the mirror very well. Like the cat, man sees the universe as a reflection of himself.

That's pretty freaky. At the end he's like "oh look, a squirrel!" and then he wonders if the other guy saw it too.

Sometimes I'm unable to look at myself in the mirror. It's like falling into a chasm of awareness that is overwhelming and it freaks me out.

You're funny Peggy but I identify with a lot of what you say. Not just mirrors but sometimes shadows! lol

Peggy,

I love the cat's sort of inability to put it together that it is a reflection.

On a higher level of comprehension people have the same problem.

He never quite gets it, does he? But he looks like he's tempted to do battle with it...note the twitching tail. Sort of a human-like response, annoyance and even a little anger at what we don't understand.

Brian, I don't get that feeling with shadows...luckily! I have a hard enough time with the mirror.

I forgot to mention, sometimes when I see myself in the mirror, I think, "I am me." Try it sometime if you really want to take a trip down the rabbit hole.

Well, I don't have that feeling with shadows anymore, but when (I guess as most kids do) I was first discovering the world around me and was very young. As far as tripp'n, I'm on shaky enough ground already. ;) Another trippy experience is observing reflections in those mirrors facing each other where it goes on for infinity!

Brian and Peggy, you win the most interesting comments this week.

I take everthing for granted when I look in a mirror that all is normal and pleasantly average. I would hate to be beautiful and or hideously painful to look at for a plethora of reasons.

But on a few rare occasions, a mirror has freaked me out and I didn't realize it was a reflection...an odd experience for anyone. I actually said, "excuse me" once after backing into a mirror. Oh how embarassing that was!

Did you ever try and use your peripheral vision to see if the image in the mirror was still looking at you when you turned your head? lol
It's like trying to see if the light bulb goes off when you close the door to the fridge.

I think I am a cat, in a lot of ways. This is such a strange topic, with great responses.

I found a quote, recently, sadly unattributed

"I am the retrospective of my Art", and that is exactly what/who I see in my mirror.

That's the difference between humans and cats, maybe.?

We had great friends in our Bridge playing days. Sephardic Jews. They collected antique , silver, ornate, mirrors, and/but,
they only show their collection mirror-face down. Why? I was told they are not supposed to look at themselves in mirrors,
so they collect them to enjoy, not their reflections, but the beautiful silver antiques. Go figure.

PS... my peripheral vision is gone now......perspective takes on a whole new experience....said the cat to the mouse, lol.
