Should I Put Painting In More Than 1 Collection

What do you think of putting paintings in more than 1 collection, given that the paintings fit in more than one category.

Most of my images are in more than one collection. I look at collections as a way to help people find what they are looking for, so they might not be just be looking for a landscape painting, but maybe they want an autumn landscape, or a rural landscape, no reason not to put the same image in all three of those collections if it fits. You don't use just one keyword do you?

One keyword for the collection? No.

Marian, sorry, I guess that was a poor analogy. What I'm saying is we put all the relevant keywords we can into our images, so why would we not put the image into all the relevant collections? A collection is a way to categorize our images. If you have collections A, B, C and D and you upload an image that could fit in collection "A" or collection "D" why not put in in both? You never know if a customer is looking for "A" or "D" so make sure they can find that image regardless of which they are looking for.

An example from my collections is my "Automotive Pop Art". While there probably are people that are interested in automotive pop art in general the reality is most are looking for something more specific, like a car type or a car make. I'll put a pop art image of a hot rodded 1932 Ford Roadster in the "Automotive Pop Art", "Fords" and "Hot Rods" collections. So whether a person is searching pop art generally, or Fords, or hot rods he's going to see that image that he might be interested in.

You absolutely should put work in more than one collection. Never assume a visitor will look at more than one, you want them to see everything that fits in the collection they chose. Some of my work is in five or six collections.

Not to forget that the contrapositive is also true.

The collection is essentially artworks that work together. So if someone sees image 'A' in collection '1' and then peruses the rest of the collection...

Ergo, if an image is a draw, then you want it to draw to as many areas of you store as possible, right? Cross promotion is cross pollination.

On the other hand if you have many pages in a collection you may want to create a new collection. Will a visitor want to scroll through page after page in a collection?
I just can't put all images in every collection that fits. Hopefully a visitor will use the search?

Thank you all. I have paintings in more than one collection but wanted to get your opinions. My mind is at rest on this subject. Thanks so much.
