Welcome To Our Family.

GENERAL INFORMATION AND HOW WE DO THINGS HERE:

Please use the URL for your image postings, rather than the copy and paste code. Posting the photo itself, rather than a link will make it difficult for people who don't have high speed internet, as well it might cause people to skip over your post without promoting.

If you want others to promote your work, you should do the same for them. We "do unto others." Those of us who take a full part in promoting ourselves and others try to do so for a 24 hour period or longer if possible. That includes opening the Big Skip and promoting the images in there too.

Only 1 image is allowed within a 24 hour period, both in this discussion and in the group.

There is NO contest vote solicitation allowed on the discussion boards.

If you are posting nudes, or other questionable images, please post a warning notice with your link. There are children here, as well as adults who choose not to look at that type of image.
Please do not post links from your pixels.com account or any other FAA mirror site. It tends to create problems for some people and most will skip those links.

ABSOLUTELY NO images of nudity, death, cruelty or violence of any kind on the main board, where you have no ability to post a warning.

Finally, JUST HAVE FUN!! This is an incredible group of people who will make you feel welcome from your first post!!

TO ALL NEWCOMERS: I realize that some of you are so new to not only the group, but to FAA, that I thought perhaps a little clarification is in order. I'm sure you've noticed that while we can't require anyone to vote/like anyone elses work, we do tend to treat people the way people treat others. But I also realized that you may not have a clue what we're talking about, so........... to "like" someone's work, you click on their blue link, which opens up that particular piece. In the upper right corner, you'll see a few little icons. One is a thumbs up, which is what you press to "like/vote" for that piece of art. All of us here press that whether we love the work or not. It's how we help each other to move up in the FAA search standings (even though FAA now says it doesn't count for very much, but that's now past history and it is what it is). That's all we ask of you. Should you choose to do so however, you can also click on the little heart (which is to add a work to your own "favorites" list), and you'll also find buttons for the various social media sites if the artist chooses to activate any or all of those buttons. These are the ways we promote each other. You may also choose to vote/like your own submissions. It's perfectly acceptable to do so.

Good evening from Mylor Bridge.
Thinking of you and yours Lisa.

Had a magical twilight stroll through Trelissick house and gardens. They have fairy lights all along the paths, Christmas trees twinkling at every turn, coloured lights shining on the trees and the outside of the house which change colour every so often. The house is done up with decorated trees and festive decorations and table settings and a lady playing the piano. It's National Trust so no photos unfortunately but anyone interested can see it here https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/trelissick/features/festive-magic

We are on another severe weather warning for the next 2 days but if it's possible we are going to the Live Nativity in Falmouth tomorrow. Really hope that goes ahead as our granddaughter will love it. Info here https://www.falmouth.co.uk/falmouth-events/falmouth-live-nativity/

Can you tell I'm happily knackered again?

I'm really excited! I had a sale today! I've had a few sales since I opened my shop, but this sale was a big occassion for me because it was the first sale that came from someone I didn't know. I'm so happy. I've sold a few things to friends and families, but nothing by just a random person seeing my work and buying it. That makes me so happy and really makes be think that I can make money here. So excited. = )

Been keeping busy, and finding it hard to put enough time in on FAA. Lots of medical appointments for my husband. We are driving the 90 miles into Fairbanks early Monday morning, where he will have surgery. It will be arthroscopic, removing bone spurs and up to 3/4 inch of his clavicle. If they find significant damage to the tendons, they will open up the shoulder to repair them. Expecting six weeks for full recovery.

For Christmas, I have managed to convince both my brothers to come to Delta. It has been around 10 years since I saw the younger one. My parents will be very happy and surprised. My children will be there as well. Last year, none of us were here. We hope to visit my husband's children while he is off work.

My husband and I celebrated our 17th anniversary today. Hardly seems possible....

Good morning from Mylor Bridge. https://fineartamerica.com/featured/holly-and-ivy-terri-waters.html

Congratulations on that first sale ML!

Cathy, welcome home, so good to see you. I'll be thinking of you and congratulations.

Awful weather here last night. The wind and rain kept us all awake. It was so strong both Christmas trees blew over in the front garden and the rabbit hutch moved across the decking and the lid is up. Bit better now so after a pub roast we are heading into Falmouth.

My sales picked up about a year into my time on FAA (3 or 4 a month) & escalated over the past two years (currently averaging 15-20 sales a month). I'm certainly not selling enough to make this a living, but I do sell enough to fund my camera equipment and international travel related to my work with the Baptist World Alliance. The bulk of my sales are on FAA, with a few on RB & S6. I promote FAA and not RB & S6. I credit my sales to the following--some in my control; some not.
1) Keywords & Descriptions: I am very intentional with key words and image descriptions. The professor and historian in me comes out in my descriptions. (I've discovered a few of my descriptions copied by others on FAA. Perhaps they did not know the descriptions are my own and not something copied from other sites.) I include my name in the key words. I believe keywords/descriptions drive search engine hits. I try to update and adjust key words and descriptions (once or twice a year) to keep search functions fresh.
2) Social Media Promotion: Social media has been a big player for me--Twitter, FB, Pinterest, Google+, etc. Twitter has been most effective for me--14,200+ followers. I do see a correlation between image promotions and sales. My social media activity has slowed over the past year due to work obligations.
3) FAA Group Activity: I credit FAA group activity with my sales. I honestly believe the comments, likes, shares, etc, from y'all play a big role in my sales.
4) Deciphering FAA Analytics?: I do believe sales beget sales on FAA, increasing search visibility along with key words, descriptions, etc. Honestly, though, the FAA analytics search matrix puzzles me.
5) FAA Luck: I was fortunate to have two images appear on FAA's homepage. The visibility of those two images have increased traffic to my site.
6) Portfolio/Website: I am intentional about image placement on my site, including collections/galleries and image placement within galleries. I occasionally reorder the images within collections, creating new visits.
7) Pricing: I increased my prices on prints (and everything else) and sales increased. I took the advice of several artists: "If you don't value your art, why should someone else?" I cannot say for sure that there is a direct correlation between higher prices & sales, but my pricing structure does not deter sales. I do have a pretty high margin, but my margin is in line with others who have regular sales.
8) Image Subjects: Linda is correct about iconic images--landmarks & locations. I keep an image bucket list--iconic places I'd like to photograph, as well as image ideas. I do not travel specifically for photography, but I do try to take advantage of my travels (personal and professional) to capture bucket list items. I do post multiple versions of the same image, offering potential buyers options to account for personal tastes or decorating needs.

Hope these thoughts help.

Good evening from Mylor Bridge

Thank you all for sharing. I think my prices are middle for diddle so I guess I need to learn to promote myself better. Twitter & Pinterest worries me, so many bad stories about image theft. Anyone had any stolen via T or P or is it all good?

Pammy, I for one am so pleased to see you back in the groove.
