WORLD TRADE CENTER

A view of the beautiful One World Trade Center located in Lower Manhattan at the Northwest corner of the site of the original World Trade Center Towers which were completely destroyed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The building reaches a height of 1,776 feet (including the antenna) which is an intentional reference to the year the Declaration of Independence was signed. The building is 104 floors high but with 94 actual stories and is currently the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. It shares the same address as the original North tower of the World Trade Center.

The architect for the new World Trade Center was David Childs of the firm Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill. Construction began on the structure in December, 2006 and was officially opened on November 3, 2014 with Conde Nast becoming it's first tenant. Tenants to come in the future include Kids Creative, Legends Hospitality, and GQ among others.

One World Trade Center has a three story observation deck between floors 100 and 102 as well as a cafe (One Cafe), a bar and grill (One Mix), and a fine dining restaurant called One Dining.

In the footprints of the original World Trade Center Towers sit two large memorial pools with waterfalls along the sides. Each pool is almost an acre in size and the waterfalls are the largest manmade waterfalls in North America. At the bottom of each there is a square opening into which the water drains down into darkness. Along the sides of these pools are bronze panels bearing the names of every person and rescue personnel who perished in the World Trade Center 2001 9/11 attacks as well as the 1993 attacks.

Being here for the first time in over 20 years was very emotional and I felt deep sadness and respect for the past but also a sense of wonderment, awe, and hope looking at this new structure. It is a beautiful and stunning building and an architectural masterpiece.
