Title
White Faced Capuchin Monkey Costa Rica
Artist
Joan Carroll
Medium
Photograph - Photography And Digital Art
Description
In moving around the forest, white faced capuchin monkey troops (also called white headed capuchins) seem to travel mainly in single-file, with each member following along the same branches as the previous animals. So once you spot a troop, you can watch as all the members of the troop run and leap through the trees, one after the other. This monkey on the grounds of our lodgings in Puerto Jimenez Costa Rica decided a short rest break was in order before following the rest of the troop, enabling me a few seconds to get a photo! White faced capuchins are native to the forests of Central America and the north-western part of South America including large parts of Costa Rica. The adult white faced capuchin has a length of 35-45cm (13.8-18in), excluding the tail, and weighs between 1.36 - 4.9 kilograms (3-9 lbs). The average life span is 44 years. Capuchins have an omnivorous diet consisting of fruits and insects, and occasionally small birds, small mammals and seeds. Thus, they are important to rainforest ecology for their role in dispersing seeds and pollen.
