Description
"Welcome to Historic Ben Wheeler, Texas" by Catherine Sherman.
A boy in a striped hat and ball hat holding a moon pie and a Royal Crown Cola is featured on the Welcome to Historic Ben Wheeler mural sign on the side of a store on the main street of Ben Wheeler, Texas. This boy also appears on other signs and ads for the community. Ben Wheeler is known for its annual Hogfest in the fall.
Ben Wheeler, Texas, was named after Benjamin (Ben) Wheeler, a mailman who carried mail from Canton to Edom, Texas.
In 1876, a post office was established in the home of George W. Clough. This spot along the mail route was then named for Wheeler, who stopped to spend the night at Clough’s home, which was about half-way between those two towns. At Clough's, Wheeler also got water for his mail-carrier mule. Clough later built the first store in Ben Wheeler, also he and his neighbors built a school house on his land.

Thank you so much, Lynn! A moon pie and an RC Cola sounds like a great breakfast!
