I thought a hike along the Antica Strada Regina between Menaggio and Rezzonico along Lake Como north of Milan Italy sounded like a fun thing to do. It promised great lake views. There was just one little hitch. There was a ‘steep ascent over Sasso Rancio’. How bad can that be, I thought. If I were 20 years old, probably not that bad! However, once accomplishing that, there were indeed grand views over the lake back toward Nobialo and Menaggio as well as across to the east side of the lake. One notable view was overlooking Villa La Gaeta, a mansion built in 1921. It might be famous in its own right due to its distinct architecture and prime location at the tip of a promontory along the lake. However, it became doubly so after the Villa was used as a location for filming some scenes of the James Bond movie Casino Royale in 2006. Specifically, the last scene of the movie when Bond shoots and meets Mr. White, and utters the famous words "Bond... James Bond". If you want to experience your own James Bond Holiday, the mansion has been renovated into apartments that can be rented.
