Description
Throughout my life, I have noticed women close to me in various states of a particular kind of repression, so much so that subservience, psychological abuse, physical abuse, self-doubt and often the full burden of family responsibilities seemed to be a matter of course for women in today's society. For this painting, my vision was of a woman overcoming the many encumbrances imposed on her, by herself and by society. I wanted to portray a sense of realization, a new found freedom and ability to reach out into the world, and coming into one's own raw, native power as a being.
