Title
The Sunset Years Of The Mary D. Hume
Artist
James Eddy
Medium
Photograph - Digital Photography
Description
Possibly one of the most photographed scenes in Gold Beach, Oregon, the Mary D. Hume sits at the mouth of the Rogue River. She was built right in Gold Beach and set sail January 21, 1881. She was a freighter hauling goods to and from San Francisco. She was a whaler, a fishing boat and a tug boat. She even sank once.
In the summer of 1978 she traveled under her own power to her final resting place just a short distance from where she was born. The last few years have taken their toll.
This is my tribute to her in her sunset years.
This photo was the Best Of Show at the 2011 Lassen County Fair.

Wow, what a fabulous image of this amazing historic boat!! First set sail in 1881...wow, that's just incredible!! I read a few comments below that she is in much worse shape now and she probably doesn't have much longer...I'm so glad you got to shoot her while she was still in pretty decent looking shape! This is a wonderful tribute to her!!! Beautiful sunset going on behind her, too!!! :)))vf

What a great documentary image, James. You have so very well captured in its present state a sense of the ship's grandeur in days past. f/l

Thank you Ann. She is not doing so well these days. I am glad that I captured her before her demise.
