Hey Joy... It tickles me that you looked up Rattlesnake. We love that road, and in the winter is just amazing. I'll post a couple of things from it. If ever you have the chance, you really should checki out Wallowa County. Joseph is pretty much an artsy place, over the last several years. There are 3 or 4 really nice gallelries, and the foundries in town that do bronze work are world reknown (not sure I spellled that right!), People from Europe send their work to be bronzed quite often. Several lyears ago all the sidewalks were torn up and replaced with cobblestone, and the street lights were replaced with old style lights which are pretty cool;. Some how or another, the city dads talked local sculpters into donating a life sized bronze to be set up on the sidewalk. The end result of the artists work are amazing. More than beautiful. We used to have a gallery on the property of one of the better known sculpters, and he would sell bronzes of horses, etc. about as fast as he could turn them out. I'm talking less than probably 18" or so high and maybe that long. These things would sell all the time in the $50,000 range! This fellow and his wife were big time in Joseph, but have bought an old mental hospital near La Grande and turned it into a gallery and museum..His name is David Manuel, and the last time I looked, they h ad a great website. Some time google the history of the Nez Perce Indians and their connection with Joseph. The town is name after Chief Joseph, and Old Chief Joseph, Joseph's father, is buried right outside of town. Also, Wallowa Lake is about 5 miles from town. The only way to get to it is through Joseph. It's a glacial lake, with beautiful moraines on either side. Very popular with the RV set. I'll post a photo or two of the view we had from our house. Pretty impressive. Gotta go. Supper awaits, and I'm hungry. Enjoy your googling! Don. P.S. We like to invite you to check out our gallery on here: doitwrightnow.pixels.com. Lynne is quite the painter. Bye

Me again Joy. If ever you have occasion to be in either Lewiston or Enterprise OR (county seat Wallowa County, get directions to what pretty much everyone up there calls Rattle Snake Grade. It goes between Wallowa County and Lewiston/Clarkson. It's a ride you'll never forget. I'll see if I can find a pix of it to post. Take care, and enjoy being where you are, rather than here where we are. God bless, Don
Joy McAdams replied:
Hi Don, I googled Rattle Snake Grade Wallowa and Wow! is there is a lot of information and pictures of this road. I had absolutely no idea of it's existence! I always thought the Lewiston Hill was as steep and long as it got; I guess I was wrong! I still have a lasting memory of a State Patrol pulling over someone on the Lewiston Grade, who pulled off to the side and in doing so, half-buried his car in the axle-deep gravel. I'm sure the ticket he received was the cheap part of the deal. I haven't been to Lewiston in years, but if I ever need a twisty to drive, Hwy 3 needs to be on the list!

Joy, we lived for a number of years in the Wallowa Mountains of Northeast Oregon. Wallowa County, and our town of Joseph, is in the very tip of NE Oregon, abutting Washington and Idaho. We were 75 miles over the mountains from La Grande, the closest town that had a Walmart. The road from Joseph to La Grande followed the Wallowa River, and on both sides of the river were covered in trees/scenes/fog exactly like this. What a beautiful job of presenting the idea of the most favorite places we've called home in 54 years of marriage. God bless you, and thank you. Don
Joy McAdams replied:
Hi Don, You may be surprised to learn that I do know where Joseph is as I grew up near the Tri-cites and taught school in Lewiston. It is a spectacularly gorgeous area. Thanks for stopping by and your wonderful comment!

Thanks so much Cindy. This particular scene was pretty wild with the light breaking through the light cloud, and shadows created; it took my breath away.

Joy McAdams replied:
Thank you Kristina. We have had a lot of rain and cloud that just hangs around recently. The upside is that the surrounding mountains have become enshrouded in the cloud. I just can't stop shooting!
