Indeed, many places on the central Oregon coast give the traveler and visitor such a sense of peace and tranquility. Because this is a cooler coast, it does not attract the surfers that one finds in warmer climes (although there are the diehards, with the wet suits, who put on an impressive show for those of us who stay on the shore), but the people who do visit and live here do so because there is a rugged, gracious beauty of beaches that intersperse with cliffs and rocks, and a surf that is calm one moment, and tempestuous the next.
Sea Breeze invites the viewer into this place of tranquility, peace, and quiet, beckoning him or her to step gently through the waving sea grass and onto the sand between. If one is careful, it is very possible to walk through the sand and grass with bare feet, and the coolness of the sand on the bare skin heightens one’s sense of where one is.
There is frequently a breeze – gentle yet determined – and the coolness of the breeze is complemented by the warmth of the sunlight streaming across one’s face. This is the time and place to settle down in the sand and sit, arms around one’s knees, and stare out to the surf, thinking of nothing more than the sound of the waves coming into the shore, the gentle whisper of the breeze as it flows by, and the haunting cry of the gulls as they go about their daily business of flying from one spot to the next, looking for the food that they need that day.
It is a time and place to be quiet and at peace with oneself.
