Description
Roseate Spoonbill Florida Keys. Something seem a little amiss in this image? Well, you are certainly right! One area in photography composition that I like to explore is our perception in relation to scaling of objects. In this case, the objects are wonderful roseate spoonbills. I recently photographed these beautiful spoonbills in the wild near Key Largo in the Florida Keys. I thought they would be a good candidate for "scaling" or making them appear as giants in this image from the coast of Curry Hammock State Park in Marathon, which is also part of the Florida Keys. The spoonbills were originally set in a swampy place, and the lighting was poor. The birds were beautiful, but the swampy atmosphere didn't do these glorious creatures justice! So, I decided to "relocate" them, positioning them here in Curry Hammock State Park, near the shore, in crystal-clear water with beautiful rocks, and a Caribbean-blue sky. I am drawn to the color contrast between the blues and pinks, and the water is clean, crisp, and translucent. The starfish are really there, as I was working with them as part of a photography scene. I hope you find this image interesting, even if it seems a little amiss!
