Description
Pudding Creek Bridge,
The Pudding Creek Bridge at one time a railroad bridge that ran along the Pacific Coast in Northern California.
The bridge was built by the Union Lumber Company in 1915 to help facilitate the shipment of redwood trees from the 10 Mile River drainage area to the mills in the town of Fort Bragg. The original bridge had a rail surface on top with a walkway underneath the tracks up in the trestles.
The last load to cross the bridge was in June of 1949. The Ten Mile Railroad ran a final excursion for one hundred Fort Bragg residents to witness the loading of the last logging train at Camp 2 along the Ten Mile River.
The bridge was at one time converted to a roadway that was designed for oversized lumber trucks to bring their load into Ft. Bragg. In 1983 a winter storm along the ocean wiped out a portion of the road north of the bridge and it was no loner used for logging.
It wasn't until many years later that repairs and restoration began that made this part of a coastal pedestrian walkway.
