Description
One of the more accessible Shipwrecks in the Graveyard of the Pacific, the Peter Iredale was a four-masted steel barque sailing vessel that ran ashore while trying to enter the mouth of the Columbia River on October 25, 1906. With very little damage done when it ran aground, there was a plan to pull it out to sea and repair it. While waiting for favorable conditions, the ship became imbedded in the sand. Most of the parts were sold for scrap except for a few masts, a couple of ribs and the bow. Today it is a popular visitor attraction.
