The Marshall, Texas, train station was built in 1912 by the Texas & Pacific (T&P) Railroad and contained a waiting room as well as the company’s eastern regional administrative offices.

The three-story, red brick 7,500 square foot structure is all that remains of a 66-acre 75-building complex that included a roundhouse, car shops, a water tower. and a warehouse.

The exterior has remained essentially the same since its construction, undergoing a rehabilitation in 1999. Today, the beautifully restored depot houses an Amtrak stop and the Texas & Pacific Railway Museum. Amtrak provides ticketing and baggage services at this facility, which is served by two daily trains.

From the depot's balcony you can see the magnificent Old Harrison County Courthouse. Marshall is in Harrison County in the Piney Woods region of east Texas.

Marshall, which was named in honor of U.S. Chief Justice John Marshall, was founded on January 30, 1841. In 2015, the non-profit National Civic League awarded Marshall with one of ten All-America City Awards. One of its fun festivals is the Fire Ant Festival. (Although being stung by a fire ant is no laughing matter, as I personally can attest.)
