A Major Mitchell Cockatoo oil painting, the most beautiful of all Australia's cockatoos!. The Major Mitchell Cockatoo is a medium sized cockatoo and is native to arid and semi-arid inland areas of Australia. It has white and salmon-pink plumage and large, bright red and yellow crest. It is said to be one of the most beautiful cockatoos and was named after Major Sir Thomas Mitchell. Major Mitchell females and males are almost identical. The males are usually a little larger and females have a broader yellow stripe on the crest and develop a red eye when they mature. This is a portrait of my cockatoo named "Dolly" after Dolly Parton!
