Sandra Strohschein - I just saw this note, sorry it took so long to respond. I did indeed use opaque white ink an pen to create the whites here. Also used copper metallic paint, powdered and mixed with water. I did not document the process for this one, but I do now for all. See my facebook art page for these, at The Art of Patricia Allingham Carlson. I have many albums, do many experiments, all pictured. Maybe I will give the Watercolor Society a try- guess it couldn't hurt. Thank you very much.

I would like a commentary from you on the process that you used to bring this bird to life. Do you take progression photos? I have spent time studying this one and cannot see any gouache, and it doesn't look like you used masking materials to preserve the whites. It appears that you lifted the white lines and feather highlights. Anyway, I think this is worthy of submission to the American Watercolor Society for consideration of membership if you are not a member already. If you did not use gouache, I would also try to get into the Transparent Watercolor Society with this one as well. Really outstanding.
