Before embarking on a career as a landscape photographer I was a keen student of acting on a path to Hollywood so this image has a deep sentimental meaning for me. The students in this picture represent the hopes and dreams of so many who flock to the Hollywood playground from all over the world to pursue their dreams of becoming a star.
For the best part of 20 years I wanted to conquer the hill overlooking the iconic Hollywood sign and capture the most amazing Californian sunrise. It was pitch black on a cool spring morning when I arrived at the foot of Mount Lee.
Apart from a few stray dogs, there was no one around at this early hour so I was free to explore many different scenes and felt that I got some great shots. I was half pack up and about to leave and out of nowhere 4 students popped into the shot. I quickly set up and snapped just one shot of these guys looking out over the sign and I knew immediately that this would be the shot of the day and that it would be the story I had always wanted to tell.
