Description
"Heart of Puerto Vallarta" was inspired by my colorful adventures living and performing music in Mexico. From my cozy studio on a cobblestone street, a few yards from a quiet in the romantic old part of town, I was surrounded by exotic beauty. Lush tropical jungle hills loomed on my right, the vast and sparkling Pacific was a few yards away to my left, and a spectacular view of Our Lady of Quadalupe Church towering above the humble adobe rooftops.
This golden sunset landscape was painted with makeshift art supplies I hastily tossed in my bag as I dashed to the airport to catch a flight from Los Angeles to Guadalajara for a brief Mexican getaway. Every afternoon, when time permitted, I sat at a wooden dining table, working from memory, postcards and occasional glances out the window. Using a white China plate as a palette, a coffee cup to wash my cheap assortment of brushes, I listened to jazz music on a tiny radio and painted under the watchful eye of a gecko who lived on my kitchen wall.
