Description
A greylags goose resting on the shores of Lakeland, Florida's Lake Morton.
Greylags geese (anser anser) are native to Europe, Asia and North Africa and can be found in semi aquatic habitats, estuaries, flooded fields and marshes throughout their range. They have been domesticated since 1360 bc. They migrate from their northern ranges in the upper parts of Europe and Asia, south for the winter. There are domestic and feral populations in North America, New Zealand, and Australia.
The greylags goose feeds mainly on grass and agricultural crops. Because of this they are considered a nuisance.
