Title
Fort Mchenry Entrance Gate And Flag
Artist
Bill Swartwout
Medium
Photograph - Fine Art Photography
Description
This scene might have a pastoral quality if it wasn't for the fact that the building is a fort that defended Baltimore, Maryland from invasion by the British during the War of 1812. Fort McHenry in Baltimore, Maryland is also well know for the writing of our National Anthem, the Star Spangled Banner, by Francis Scott Key during the battle near the end of the war.
The Main Gate of the Fort is shown just to the left of the flag pole that is flying the 15-star Storm Flag, which is a bit smaller than the Garrison Flag that was hoisted on the moring after the final battle ended.
