Dawn colors the clouds in a skyscape of golds and reds.
We find ourselves in a country landscape, a place of peace and quiet, and the exuberant color of the clouds provides visual sound as we contemplate the beginning of a new day.
Sunset, or sunrise? Many people have definite ideas about which one they prefer, and generally this has more to do with whether one is a morning person or not that determines which one you like. Because both, dawn or sunset, are times in which God grabs a paint brush and swathes great strokes of color across the sky.
Dawn, the artwork, invites the viewer to enter into the peace and silence of the beginning of the day, to take a moment even before coffee to look at the horizon and marvel at how the colors change from one moment to the next. Even within the blink of an eye the colors change.
The brushy, impressionistic style of the artwork Dawn allows much scope for the eye to view, for the imagination to fill in. Where do the rocks end and the reflection in the water begin? What is in the landscape beyond the bend of the river? How far does this river extend, and does anyone live along it?
Representational art is the art of the story, art that encourages the viewer to ask questions such as these and gently mull over the answers. There is no ârightâ answer, and though the artist sets up the paradigm by the very painting of the work, the viewer has incredible freedom to tell the story, embellish the details, add to the story each day depending upon his or her mood, experience, or whim. It is in this way that representational art invites the viewer to leave the prosaic surroundings and enter into a world of imagination, creativity, and joy.
