As with most of my trips, I underestimated circumstances and headed out on a hike without a lot of thought. I decided to hike up Tuckerman’s Ravine Trail on Mount Washington after a couple days of torrential downpours. The first section of trail was closed due to a washout of a bridge. I was impressed that an alternate route was provided, so individuals could still hike to the ravine or the summit. This alternate route did not mean the short hike was not without its own difficulties. The majority of my half mile hike to Crystal Cascade was through inches of thick, deep mud. I guess the main thing is I made it in to see the waterfall in all its glory. It was absolutely gorgeous.
Crystal Cascade is in Pinkham Notch, New Hampshire. It drops a total of 100 feet in two uneven segments that are split by a small platform with a shallow dark pool. The upper segment is a horsetail of approximately 70 feet. The lower section is a 30-foot tall block. (2010 New England Waterfalls – 2nd Edition)
