They say the drive from Queenstown to Wanaka on the South Island of New Zealand along the Crown Range Road is 'not for the faint hearted'. Actually on a nice day, it isn't bad...as long as you pay attention, as long as you aren't towing a trailer or driving a big motor home, as long as it isn't windy, as long as it isn't snowing or raining! Yes, on a nice day it is a gorgeous drive with many beautiful views of the mountains and valleys all around! But here on the left you can see some of the hairpin turns making the drive a challenge. When the sign warns you to slow to 15 kmh (about 10 mph), you need to SLOW DOWN! The Crown Range Road one of the highest paved roads in New Zealand reaching an altitude of 1.121m (3,677ft) above the sea level.
