Description
In 1924, when baseball was still over 20 years away from being integrated by Jackie Robinson, the Kansas City Monarchs and the Hilldale Club from near Philadelphia met for the first "Colored World Series" of the "Negro Leagues". While that language is offensive and representative of the ignorance of its time, the true tragedy is the fact that segregation existed in the first place, be it in baseball or everyday life. Nevertheless, the Negro Leagues are an important part of baseball's history and featured such stars as Satchel Paige and Josh Gibson. Kansas City won this closely contested series, 5 games to 4.
